André Citroën wanted to produce a vehicle that was simply designed, low-priced and lightened, without compromising its sturdiness. After the type A, the B2 was launched, followed by a smaller model, the 5CV two-seat Torpedo, which was generally painted yellow, earning it the nickname of „little lemon“. Then came the three-seat Torpedo, nicknamed the „cloverleaf“ due to the shape of the passenger seating.

André Citroën souhaitait produire un véhicule au design simple, à prix abordable et allégé, sans pour autant compromettre sa robustesse. Après la Type A, la B2 fut lancée, suivie d'un modèle plus petit, la 5CV Torpedo deux places, généralement peinte en jaune, ce qui lui valut le surnom de « petit citron ». Vint ensuite la Torpedo trois places, surnommée « trèfle » en raison de la forme de ses sièges passagers.
