La Moto Guzzi 500 Alce est une moto italienne produite par Moto Guzzi entre 1938 et 1948, principalement pour les forces armées et la police.
L'Alce fut créée en 1939 pour remplacer la Moto Guzzi GT 20, elle-même dérivée en 1938 de la Moto Guzzi GT 17, produite de 1932 à 1939. Sa production se poursuivit jusqu'en 1945. Entre 1946 et 1948, un nombre indéterminé d'exemplaires furent également produits : la version de transition, l'Alce V, aux caractéristiques hybrides entre les deux modèles (avec l'adoption des soupapes en tête), puis la version Superalce. Le numéro de moteur était initialement identifié par le préfixe AV (Alce Veloce), puis par le préfixe SA (Superalce). Les numéros de châssis jusqu'en 1954 suivent la numérotation de toutes les motos monocylindres de 500 cm³, commençant ensuite par le numéro S 00 AA jusqu'au numéro S 79 AR en 1958. Également acquise par la Milizia della Strada et la Polizia dell'Africa Italiana, elle fut largement utilisée par l'Armée royale britannique pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale sur tous les fronts, dans ses trois versions : monoplace, biplace et avec side-car. Au total, 6 390 exemplaires (monoplaces et biplaces) et 669 side-cars furent construits. Entre 1940 et 1943, les mécaniciens de l'Alce développèrent un tricycle militaire, le TriAlce, produit à 1 741 exemplaires.
Dans l'Armée royale britannique, elle fut distribuée à tous les régiments comme véhicule de reconnaissance et d'orientation des colonnes. Elle équipa notamment des régiments entiers de motards Bersaglieri. Une configuration unique était le porte-arme, avec une mitraillette Breda Mod. 30 montée sur un affût pivotant fixé à l'axe de la fourche avant. L'arme ne pouvait pas tirer en mouvement, mais la moto servait d'appui-feu statique.
Après la guerre, elle resta en service dans l'armée italienne et la police routière, jusqu'à son remplacement en 1948 par la Moto Guzzi Superalce.

In the British Royal Army, it was issued to all regiments as a reconnaissance and column-orienting vehicle. It notably equipped entire regiments of Bersaglieri motorcyclists. A unique configuration was the weapon carrier, with a Breda Mod. 30 submachine gun mounted on a swiveling carriage attached to the front fork axle. The weapon could not fire while moving, but the motorcycle served as static fire support.
After the war, it remained in service with the Italian Army and the traffic police until its replacement in 1948 by the Moto Guzzi Superalce.
