The Fiat 806 Grand Prix adopted significant innovations for its time. The Fiat 806 was, in fact,  the “progenitor” of the modern Formula One racing cars. Developed and produced by FIAT, the Italian automobiles  manufacturer, in 1927, it could be considered the first Grand Prix car ever built before.  Thanks to its 180 HP 12 cylinders engine, the Fiat 806 was able to reach and even exceed the speed of 240 Km/h. However, the most important innovations were made in the development of the chassis, mechanics and bodywork. The engine and gearbox unit was, in fact, located between the two chassis bars in order to optimize the performance and the drivability.

More History :

The Fiat 806 Spinto Corsa, sometimes called the Fiat 806 Grand Prix or Fiat 806/406, was a racing car built by the Turin-based manufacturer in 1927. It was the first Grand Prix single-seater ever built. It was also Fiat's last.

In 1923, thanks to his powers of persuasion, Enzo Ferrari, then a driver and general manager for Alfa Corse, lured Vittorio Jano and his technical team from Fiat to join Alfa Romeo. After the crushing defeat at the 1924 Lyon Grand Prix, feeling betrayed, Giovanni Agnelli made an impulsive decision: he withdrew the Fiat team from Grand Prix competitions and suspended the construction of the new Grand Prix car, designed by the young engineers Tranquillo Zerbi and Alberto Massimino.
