En 1660, la Ville d’Amsterdam offrit à Charles II, roi d’Angleterre, un yacht comme celui-ci, finement décoré. Le souverain en fut tellement séduit qu’il décida d’organiser pour ce type d’embarcation des courses spécifiques, d’où le terme yachting.
