Le P-40F fut remplacé par le Rolls-Royce Merlin 28 de fabrication américaine, mais ses performances en altitude s'améliorèrent moins que prévu. Il pouvait difficilement rivaliser avec le Bf-109 allemand en dessous de 4 572 mètres (15 000 pieds). En revanche, ses performances à basse altitude étaient excellentes. Testé le 25 novembre 1941, il fut produit à 1 311 exemplaires en 1942. Il fut principalement utilisé sur les champs de bataille français.

The P-40F was replaced with the U.S. -made Rolls-Royce Merlin 28, but its altitude performance improved less than expected. It can barely compete with German Bf-109 at a height below 15000 feet. But it has excellent low altitude performance. It was tested in November 25, 1941 and made 1311 in 1942. The main service is in the French battlefield.
