Le transporteur de chars Diamond T980/981 était un véhicule lourd utilisé pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale et les années suivantes.
Conçu comme tracteur lourd pour le transport de chars, le Diamond T 980 était produit par la société Diamond T de Chicago. En 1940, la Commission d'achat britannique, cherchant à équiper l'armée britannique d'un véhicule capable de transporter des chars plus grands et plus lourds, a sollicité plusieurs constructeurs de camions américains afin d'évaluer leurs modèles. La société Diamond T, forte d'une longue expérience dans la construction de véhicules militaires robustes pour le Corps des quartiers-maîtres de l'armée américaine, avait récemment produit un prototype de véhicule lourd pour cette même armée. Après quelques modifications mineures, ce prototype répondait aux exigences britanniques, et une première commande de 200 exemplaires fut rapidement honorée.
Le résultat fut le Diamond T 980 (devenu ensuite le 981), un véhicule qui s'avéra être l'un des plus performants et des plus mémorables de sa catégorie. Propulsé par un moteur diesel Hercules de 14,5 litres développant 201 ch, il s'est avéré capable de déplacer les chars les plus lourds alors en service.

The Diamond T980/981 Tank Transporter was a heavy tank transporter, used in World War II and the following years.
Designed as a heavy prime mover for tank transporting, the Diamond T 980 was the product of the Diamond T Company in Chicago. In 1940 the British Purchasing Commission, looking to equip the British Army with a vehicle capable of transporting larger and heavier tanks, approached a number of American truck manufacturers to assess their models. The Diamond T Company had a long history of building rugged, military vehicles for the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps and had recently produced a prototype heavy vehicle for the US Army which, with a few slight modifications met British requirements and an initial order for 200 was very quickly filled.
The result was the Diamond T 980 (later 981), a vehicle which proved to be one of the most successful and memorable in its class. Powered by a 14.5 litre Hercules diesel engine, developing 201 bhp, it proved capable of the task of moving the heaviest tanks then in service.
