Le char Iosif Staline (ou char IS, du nom du dirigeant soviétique Joseph Staline) était un char lourd développé par l'Union soviétique pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Les chars de cette série sont parfois également appelés chars JS ou IS.

Ce char lourd était conçu avec un blindage épais pour contrer les canons allemands de 88 mm et disposait d'un canon principal capable de détruire les chars allemands Tiger et Panther. Il s'agissait principalement d'un char de percée, tirant un obus explosif lourd efficace contre les tranchées et les bunkers. L'IS-2 entra en service en avril 1944 et fut utilisé comme fer de lance par l'Armée rouge lors de la bataille de Berlin, dans la phase finale de la guerre.

The Iosif Stalin tank (or IS tank, named after the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin), was a heavy tank developed by theSoviet Unionduring World War II. The tanks in the series are also sometimes called JS or ИС tanks.

The heavy tank was designed with thick armour to counter the German88 mmguns, and sported a main gun that was capable of defeating the German Tiger and Panther tanks. It was mainly a breakthrough tank, firing a heavy high-explosive shell that was useful against entrenchments and bunkers. The IS-2 was put into service in April 1944, and was used as a spearhead in theBattleforBerlinby the Red Army in the final stage of the war.
