Le Heereswaffenamt (Département des armements de l'armée allemande) lança un programme de rationalisation et de développement (rnyeivklunh, ou E) afin d'économiser les ressources matérielles et humaines au fil du conflit. Le Tiger II devait être remplacé par l'E-75, un char d'environ 75 tonnes. Le moteur choisi était une version améliorée du Maybach HL230, équipant également le Panther et le Tiger II. Baptisé HL234, il développait 900 ch grâce à l'injection de carburant et devait atteindre 1 200 ch avec un compresseur. L'emplacement des réservoirs de carburant, des radiateurs et des ventilateurs était similaire à celui du Tiger II. La vitesse maximale prévue pour l'E-75 était de 40 km/h. L'idée était d'assembler les deux types de chars sur la même chaîne de production, en utilisant des machines identiques et en important des sous-ensembles.

The Heereswaffenamt(Army Weapons Department) of the German Army started a rationalization and development (rnyeivklunh, or E ) program to conserve materials and manpower as the war progressed. The Tiger Ⅱ was to be replaced by the E-75 of approximately 75 tonnes. The engine chosen was an improved version of the Maybach HL230 as fitted to the Panther and the Tiger II. Called the HL234, it developed 900 HP using fuel injection, and was expected to produce up to 1200 HP with supercharging. The location of fuel tanks, radiators and fans was similar to the Tiger II. Maximum speed was to be 40 KPH for the E-75. The idea was to assemble both types on the same production line, using identical production machinery and brought in sub assemblies.
