Dans son rapport pour l'exercice 1938, Krupp révéla avoir entamé la conception d'un char d'assaut automoteur de 105 mm K L/52. Ce véhicule, surnommé « Dicker Max », était armé d'un canon Krupp de 105 mm K 18 L/52. Ce canon était équipé d'un frein de bouche à double déflecteur et pouvait pénétrer 111 mm de blindage sous un angle vertical de 30 degrés à une distance de 2 000 mètres. Ce Panzerjäger bénéficiait d'un blindage léger (10 à 50 mm) et sa superstructure était ouverte. Son moteur était un Maybach HL 120 standard à 12 cylindres (essence), lui permettant d'atteindre une vitesse maximale de 40 km/h sur route. Durant les premiers mois de l'opération Barbarossa en Russie, il fut affecté à l'Abt. 521. L'un des deux exemplaires fut détruit au combat et l'autre perdu en 1941. Les deux prototypes étaient cependant très efficaces et contrecarraient tous les modèles engagés au combat par les Russes à cette époque.

This Panzerjagder Was slightly armoring (10-50 mm), and the superstructure was open. The engine was the standard 12 cylinders (gasoline) Maybach HL 120 ensuring on road a maximum speed of 40km/h. During first months of the “Barbarossa” operation in Russia, they were assigned with the Abt.521. One of both was destroyed in the battle and the other one was lost in 1941. The two prototypes were very effective .however, counters all the models put at the combat by the Russians at that time.
