Immédiatement après la démonstration du prototype Gerät 400 devant Hitler le 24 octobre, la Luftwaffe commanda, le 21 novembre 1939, 100 exemplaires destinés à être montés sur des châssis de Zugkraftwagen de 8 tonnes. Initialement, le canon Flak 38-Vierling de 2 cm était fixé par un pivot central ; par la suite, des supports de base et des cliquets furent utilisés pour fixer le canon au sol. À partir de 1942, un blindage de radiateur et une cabine d'équipage furent ajoutés pour protéger le canon des éclats d'obus et des tirs d'armes légères. La première série de 100 exemplaires fut achevée d'avril 1940 à mi-1941. La production, qui se poursuivit au rythme de 10 exemplaires par mois début 1942, s'accéléra en août 1942 pour répondre à la demande croissante de l'aviation alliée. Au total, environ 750 à 800 exemplaires furent produits fin décembre 1944.

Directly after the demonstration of the experimental Geraet 400 for Hitler on 24 October, on 21 November 1939 the Luftwaffe ordered 100 to be mounted on 8-ton Zugkraftwagen chassis. Originally, the 2 cm Flak 38-Vierling was secured with a central pivot mounting; later, base supports and rachets were used to secure the normal ground mount. Starting in 1942, an armor radiator shield and crew cab were intriduced as protection against shell fragments and small arms fire. The first series of 100 were completed from April 1940 through mid-1941. Continuing at a low rate of 10 per month in early 1942, production accelerated in August 1942 to meet the incrersed theart of Allied air power. Altogether about 750 to 800 were produced by the end of December 1944.
